Synopsis:

One fateful night, Brad Majors and his fiancée, Janet Weiss — a wholesome, well-behaved, utterly normal young couple in love — innocently set out to visit an old professor. Unfortunately for them, this night out is destined to be one they will never forget. A thunderstorm and a flat-tire force them to seek help at the castle of Dr. Frank ’N’ Furter, an alien, transvestite scientist with a manic genius and insatiable libido. Brad, Janet, and Frank’ N’ Furter’s cohorts are swept up into the scientist’s latest experiment. The night’s misadventures will cause Brad and Janet to question everything they’ve known about themselves, each other, love and lust. A loving homage to the classic B sci-fi film and horror genres with an irresistible rock’n’roll score, The Rocky Horror Show is a hilarious, wild ride that no audience will soon forget.

Character Breakdown:

Dr. Frank-n-Furter (A Scientist)

A “sweet transvestite” scientist from the planet of Transsexual, located in the galaxy of Transylvania. He is the master of a castle which serves as his laboratory and the setting for the majority of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He is renowned for his decadence and self-indulgence, which in turn lead to his ultimate downfall. Must be excellent singer, mover, comedian with baritone range. All ethnicities, ages 30-50.

Brad Majors (A Hero)

A straight-laced man from Denton, Brad Majors is attempting to visit his old mentor, Dr. Everett V. Scott, with his new fiancée, Janet Weiss, when he stumbles upon Frank-n-Furter’s castle. Must be excellent singer, comedian, mover with baritenor range. All ethnicities, ages 20s to early 30s.

Janet Weiss (A Heroine)

A simple-minded, naive, and innocent girl at the onset of the film, Janet Weiss “gives herself over to absolute pleasure” at the castle, despite her recent engagement to Brad Majors. Must be excellent singer, comedian, mover with mezzo soprano voice (with belt and mix). All ethnicities, ages 20s to early 30s.

Riff-Raff (A Handyman)

Brother/lover of Magenta and a disgruntled, Transylvanian underling of Dr. Frank-n-Furter, Riff-Raff eventually overthrows his master in order to return to his home planet. Must be excellent singer, comedian with rock tenor voice. All ethnicities, ages 20s to 40s.

Magenta (A Domestic)

Sister and lover of Riff-Raff, Magenta serves as a maid under Frank-n-Furter and returns at the conclusion of the movie to Transylvania. Must be excellent singer, comedian, good mover, mezzo soprano/alto with belt. All ethnicities, ages 20s to 40s.

Columbia (A Groupie)

An especially lusty Transylvanian, Columbia first falls in love with Frank-n-Furter, then Ex Delivery Boy, Eddie. She is systematically rejected by Dr. Frank-n-Furter, to her utter frustration. Must be an excellent singer, good dancer (tap a plus) with mezzo soprano voice. All ethnicities, ages 20s to 40s.

Rocky Horror (A Creation)

Created from scratch in the strange laboratory of Dr. Frank-n-Furter, Rocky Horror came into the world simply to serve as a plaything for his creator. Designed to be blonde, dreamy, and statuesque, Rocky’s knowledge of the world is limited to the purely lustful and sexual. He exists for a very short span of time, during which he has trysts with both Frank-n-Furter and Janet. He reflects Mary Shelley’s classic monster of Frankenstein, who is loved and then rejected by his creator. Must be a tenor with great body, good looks. All ethnicities, ages 20s to early 30s.

Dr. Everett V. Scott (A Rival Scientist)

Dr. Everett Scott, mentor of Brad and Janet and uncle of Eddie, wanders into the castle in search of his nephew and serves as the scientific voice of reason. Character singer, good comedian. All ethnicities, ages 50s to late 60s.

Eddie (Ex Delivery Boy)

Eddie from birth is a rotten egg, perpetually finding trouble. He is implied to have had sexual relations with both Dr. Frank-n-Furter and Columbia and seems to have no sense of control or sanity. He rushes to the castle to cause havoc, but leaves a note to his uncle revealing knowledge of the Transylvanians’ dastardly plans. Dr. Frank-n-Furter murders him out of anger. Must be excellent rock baritenor. All ethnicities, all genders. Ages 30s to 50s.

The Criminologist (An Expert)

Serving as something of a narrator to the story, the criminologist is omniscient and perhaps omnipresent, often appearing between scenes in the comfort of his study to provide explanations or commentary on that fateful night. Must be good at improv, comedy and have good singing voice. Baritone. All ethnicities ages 40s to 60s.
