Bipartisan FY23 NEA funding request

Hi everyone,

Please find

We helped recruit 142 signers for the letter, which is 17 more signers than last year's letter. The additional support in the House for increased NEA funding is a testament to the AEMI unions and your members who took action over the past three weeks! It also positions us well to continue working on our goal of funding the NEA and NEH at $331 million each.

The Senate arts funding request letter will stay open through much of May, so please continue to promote the Action Network petition with your members. (We updated the petition so that it will only direct participants to send messages to their U.S. senators.)

As always, please let us know if you have any questions.

Best,
Michael

Character Breakdown

The Producer: male, 50s, white. ‘Freddie Carlton’. A down-on-his-luck opportunist and fast-talking salesman lacking a moral compass. Dealings of the backroom, backdoor, and wayward variety whose bottom line is the bottom line. Though miserly, shady, and manipulative, there’s a glimmer of the dream still alive deep down. Has excellent, fast-paced comic timing.
The Prompter: male, 40s, BIPOC. ‘Tobias Deschanel’. Flamboyant, ferocious, and clever crossdressing “entrepreneur”. Quippy and blasé but direct. Will do anything to make a buck and suffers no fools while doing so. His lengthy rap sheet is glittered with every illegal activity imaginable. You want it done—he’s your guy… or gal. Has excellent, fast paced comic timing.
The Stage Manager: female, mid-30s-40s, BIPOC. ‘Liz Jennings’. A well-organized, levelheaded, unflappable professional. No funny business here. Dry, deadpan, and used to wrangling rooms of crazies—aka Artists. Has excellent, fast-paced comic timing.
Understudy: The Playwright/The Prompter: male, late 30s-early 40s, any ethnicity. Has excellent, fast-paced comic timing.
Understudy: The Actress/The Stage Manager: female, 40s-50s, any ethnicity. Has excellent, fast-paced comic timing.
Understudy: The Director/The Producer: male, 50s-60s, any ethnicity. Has excellent, fast-paced comic timing.
