Harry – mid-late 40s; Hispanic/Latin; a big personality; head chef of a small struggling Park Slope restaurant; he is an arrogant, passionate, and hot-headed chef. It’s all about him – or more precisely, his food, what he decides to put on the menu and how to run his kitchen, and it just might be to the detriment of the business. He does not like compromise. For Harry, if it’s not about the right ingredients, the right food, then it’s not a part of his reality. Basic (or more) chef skills, especially knife (chopping etc.), a plus.

Mike – late 30s-40s; Open Ethnicity; the admin/money man of a small struggling Park Slope restaurant – and one of the waiters; he’s on his last nerve, bit of hope, and money – having sunk it all into the business. Secretly wishing he was the chef; Mike’s forte is for the business side of the biz – but the well is running dry. He’ll do whatever it takes, call it common sense to those in the restaurant business, to make the restaurant a success. Mike is not a pushover, but he struggles to “keep Harry in line” and the restaurant making money.

Rodney – 18 to early 20s; Black; a New Yorker by birth; Rodney’s been a waiter with Harry and Mike since they opened - all while absorbing Chef Harry’s recipes and skills; he’s loyal to the restaurant – and to both Harry and Mike – and will step in when and where needed; it’s not just about the money for Rodney, it’s about the success of the restaurant and being a part of that.

A comic chameleon with great physical comedy skills, verbal and physical dexterity, comic timing. Experience with Victorian language (Dickens and Arthur Conan Doyle). THE LEHMAN TRILOGY
PLEASE NOTE: The cast of three actors plays between 50-75 different characters. The roles of Mayer Lehman and Henry Lehman are cast.

Emanuel Lehman: Black, Age 30s-40s, the middle brother, hot-headed and decisive; also plays Herbert Lehman, Lewis Glucksman, and other characters of various ages, genders and circumstances. Role requires verbal and physical dexterity, emotional range, vocal variety and control, physical & vocal stamina. Bavarian accent. (The play is 3 hours long; no 2-show days).

ROSIE IS RED AND EVERYBODY IS BLUE
SYNOPSIS: Rosie seems to be living the proverb: “when it rains, it pours.” Her brother-in-law is living in her small house, driving her up one wall and down the other. To make matters worse, her downand-out adult son has moved in too. Al this while Rosie secretly battles her own problems and emotions, just trying to make it through each day. Filled with sharp, witty banter, this fast-paced and heartfelt comedy about family will have audiences in tears – both happy and heartwarming.

(2) Female presenting:
Rosie – late 50s-60s; Black; Rosie, a no-nonsense mother and widow, is strong, opinionated, loving, and a bit stubborn. A hard worker, and member of the working-class, as a school bus driver, Rosie has seen it all. She’s maternal with street smarts and a big heart that is hidden at times by a gruff exterior. While Rosie will help those in need, she has a hard time asking for help for herself.

Vanessa – late 20s-30s; Black; Chris’s girlfriend. She’s into yoga and healthy eating, and Chris.

(2) Male presenting:
Chris – late 20s; Black; Rosie’s Son. Chris is a good young man at an impasse in his life and struggling to get back on his feet. Currently living at home with his mom, Chris is finding it hard to move forward in life. Hopeful to get back into the film/TV business, for which he is trained.

Lenny – 60s-70s; Black; Rosie’s brother-in-law. Lenny is an easy going and simple man. Currently living with Rosie, he’d like to help her out, but will she let him?


ONCE
PLEASE NOTE: Every actor in ONCE is required to sing and play at least one instrument. Some instrument assignments are set in stone, i.e. “Girl” must play the piano and “Guy” must play the guitar. What instruments other characters play may be flexible, depending on the casting mix. The instrumentation listed below is the traditional assignment.

Auditions for Capital City Theatre’s 2024-25 season will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 10am-2pm (10am-5:30pm for Equity actors) at the Capital City Theatre CORE, 6120 University Avenue, Middleton, WI.

The shows we are seeing people for are It’s a Wonderful Life, a New Musical – World Premiere (Directed by Michael Cotey), and Assassins – a staged concert (Directed by Jake Penner). Capital City Theatre is an SPT/LORT D professional musical theatre company using both Equity and Non-Equity contracts.

Local Madison actors are strongly encouraged to attend/submit and all actors over 18 years of age (or out of high school) are paid.

Equity/Non-Equity: It’s a Wonderful Life, a New Musical will fall under a LORT D/LOA tier Equity contract (casting both Equity and Non-Equity actors) and Assassins will be an all non-Equity cast. (Note: College students are encouraged to audition for Assassins.)

What to Prepare**: Please bring 2 one-minute musical theatre cuts from your book with pages back-to-back in a 3-ring binder (we may only hear one cut). An accompanist will be provided.

Online Submissions: If you are interested in submitting online, please use the same parameters as above and have all submissions in by Saturday, June 15. If you are non-Equity, you may submit for both shows.

Casting the 25th anniversary of this dynamic, theatrical, live stage production performed during the Fright Fest Halloween celebration. Six Flags Great Adventure seeks experienced, versatile dancers in jazz, contemporary, hip hop, Broadway, partnering, and tricks. The show features dance, music, pyrotechnics, and special effects. Lip-synching and airbrush makeup are required. Performed weekends and select days in an outdoor, 3,000-seat arena. Dancers also perform in the once-nightly zombie parade and Awakening show.

Here are a few observations from my participation in this AEMI AI meeting of the "creative" unions:

1) In the prior Zoom meeting of the AEMI on AI, hosted by Michael Wasser, we were told to ask our unions HOW our individual union might contribute to future meetings and initiatives on AI, which I conveyed to you and recorded in my notes. I heeded this "charge" and realized I have 

 

academic scholarship knowledge in AI, as well as academic admin experience, which I can certainly contribute and would be happy to.

 So my first observation is that Jennifer did not re-visit this charge, nor poll the attendees on how their unions may help future AI meetings. Jennifer did ask/poll us attendees for recent/current AI "examples" in our unions. I noted the attendee responses, to which I will add that I also gave an example that I didn't have a chance to record in my notes during the Zoom, which is the following:

My daughter just graduated with a BA in Media Studies (the field of my first MA) and wrote her thesis on "AI and the Human Voice". She also recently voiced a character for an animated series for which she had to negotiate a contract. There was NO provision in the contract for AI. Therefore, I helped her to craft a clause which was approved by the producer's attorney, who thanked my daughter for providing "AI legal language" to the extent that it currently exists/applies

 In the context of the above example, I then offered my dual credentials of singer/actor and academic with my first MA in Media Studies and second MA in Digital Humanities, with expertise in AI, toward any assembled D / AEMI group that might interface with Sen. Charles Schumer's staff on "The Schumer Doctrine" as I 

mentioned during our GIAA Zoom this past Tuesday, May 21. Jennifer responded that my offer was noted.

My last observation that bears noting is that Jennifer somewhat abruptly ended the AEMI AI Zoom meeting 20 minutes early AFTER the attendees had voted in favor of more future and regular meetings on AI. I was under the impression that we were going to have break-out groups and there was ample time for this,
