Casting Equity actors for roles in Quintessence Theatre Group's 2024-25 Season. Season includes: "Cyrano De Bergerac" (Edmond Rostand, writer; Martin Crimp, free adaptation; Rehearsals begin Sept. 3; tech runs Sept. 20-22; runs Oct. 5-27), "Kiss Me, Kate" (Cole Porter, Bella Spewack, and Sam Spewack, writers; Rehearsals begin Nov. 5; tech runs Nov. 21-24; runs Dec. 6-Jan. 5, 2025), "Antony & Cleopatra" performed in rotating repertory with "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Shakespeare, writer; Rehearsals begin Jan. 21, 2025; tech runs Feb. 21-25; runs Mar. 15/22-Apr. 27), and TBA: June Project (Rehearsals begin Apr. 30, 2025; tech runs May 22-25; runs June 7-29).

    Additional Instructions:

    For Shakespeare, prepare two short contrasting verse monologues (90 seconds) comedic and dramatic. For "Cyrano"/TBA, prepare a contemporary monologue in heightened language. For "Kiss Me Kate," a short monologue and a short vocal selection from a classic musical (romantic comedy). Bring your headshot and resume stapled together. An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.     Season Breakdown

    "CYRANO DE BERGERAC"
    CHRISTIAN DE NEUVILLETTE: (25 - 35) In love with Roxana and new to the Gascons. Handsome, quick-witted, and fearless.
    COUNT DE GUICHE: (45 - 55) Roxana's jealous and controlling guardian. He is married but in love and lust with his ward.
    CYRANO DE BERGERAC: (35 - 45) A swashbuckling poet deeply in love with Roxana. Loyal, proud, and dramatic.
    DUENNA: (35 - 65) Roxana's handmaid and friend. She has a biting, sarcastic sense of humor.
    LE BRET: (30 - 40) Captain of the Gascon regiment. He is Cyrano's friend and is a nice guy but possesses a seriously militaristic attitude.
    MONSIEUR MONTFLEURY: (35 - 45) An actor. Full of himself & thinks of himself as gift to the opposite sex.
    RAGUENEAU: A baker, poet, and drunk. Cyrano's friend.
    ROXANA: (20 - 30) Cyrano's cousin. She is young, beautiful, and loves to be doted on.
    VISCOUNT DE VALVERT: (25 - 35) A member of the French nobility. Set up by De Guiche to marry Roxana. A brutish snob.

    "KISS ME, KATE"
    FRED GRAHAM - 30-50, strong baritone, commanding presence. He is an actor, director and producer of the play within the play. He has the lion's share of Shakespearean dialogue. Plays Petruchi in The Shrew. He is also Lilli's ex-husband.
    LILLI VANESSI - 30-50, strong mezzo soprano. She is an actress of stage and screen, proud, haughty, much like her character Katherine in The Shrew, but also vulnerable. Ex-wife of Fred and engaged to Harrison Howell.
    LOIS LANE - 20-30, strong mezzo belter. She is an actress, the quintessential ingenue with lots of charisma and charm. She also plays Bianca in The Shrew.
    BILL CALHOUN - 20-30, good tenor or baritenor. He is a ne'er-do-well actor who has a bit of a gambling problem. Is a Broadway hoofer, so he should move really well. He also plays Lucentio in The Shrew.
    HARRISON HOWELL - 50+, does not sing. Dignified gentleman from Georgia, very political, sometimes played as a general. He is a little stuffy and is engaged to Lilli Vanessi.
    FIRST & SECOND GANGSTERS - 30-50+ comic baritones or tenors. They are the archetypical gangsters complete with accent. Does some soft shoe in "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" so should move well. Also appears in The Shrew, unexpectedly.
    HARRY TREVOR - 50+, sings in the ensemble. He is an actor who appears mostly in The Shrew as Katherine and Bianca's father, Baptista. He has mainly Shakespearean dialogue.
    HATTIE - Any age, good voice. She is Lilli's dresser and sings "Another Op'nin', Another Show" and sings in "Too Darn Hot."
    RALPH - Any age, sings in the ensemble and is the stage manager of The Shrew.
    PAUL - Any age, tenor or baritenor. He is Fred's dresser.
    GREMIO - Any age, tenor or baritenor. Actor who appears in The Shrew.
    HORTENSIO - Any age, tenor or baritenor. Actor who appears in The Shrew.
    HABERDASHER - Any age, an actor who plays the Haberdasher in The Shrew.
    NATHANIEL, GREGORY, & PHILLIP - Any ages. Actors who play Petruchio's man servants in The Shrew.

    "ANTONY & CLEOPATRA"
    MARK ANTONY - One third of the triumvirate, the alliance between Antony, Octavius, and Lepidus that rules the Roman Empire. Antony is a great general, beloved by his men.
    CLEOPATRA - Queen of Egypt. She is the last of the Greek dynasty that began its rule over Egypt, centuries before, with Ptolemy. Cleopatra is the lover of Antony, and others in the past, including the deceased Julius Caesar.
    OCTAVIUS CAESAR - Julius Caesar's nephew and adopted son. Destined to become Augustus, the ruler of the Roman Empire. A young man (20s).
    LEPIDUS - An old man. The lame duck of the triumvirate. Too old to be a serious contender for power.
    SEXTUS POMPEIUS - His father was Pompey the Great, a popular Roman general who becomes a rival to the triumvirate.
    ENOBARBUS - Friend to Antony. An officer, one of Antony's closest friends and supporters.
    VENTIDIUS - A gifted officer of Antony, blessed also with political savvy.
    EROS - A lieutenant and one of Antony's dearest friends.
    THIDIAS - Friend to Caesar. Messenger.
    IRAS, CHARMIAN - Attendants to Cleopatra.
    A SOOTHSAYER - A clairvoyant who predicts many things, although some of his predictions are masked.
    A CLOWN - Deliverer of the asp that kills Cleopatra.
