NYC Motion Capture Session - NEW ACTING SCENARIO

For this specific study, you will be acting out scenarios from a list of prompts with another person. Example: 2 people at a coffee shop (1 person the barista & the other placing an order) and acting out the scenario.

**You MUST be highly skilled at improv and be able to act out these scenarios with someone else with ease.**

If you are not highly skilled in acting, we can schedule you for a different study. Just please do not sign up for this if you would not be 100% comfortable with it.

Sizes are only needed as information to help the costume department pull clothing at their wardrobe fitting.

Charleston Stage, South Carolina's largest professional theatre, is accepting submissions for our 2025-2026 Resident Acting Company.

Our Resident Actor Program is an intensive 11-month program that allows participants to combine multiple performance opportunities with a well-structured and practical teacher training program. Our company is in residence at the Historic Dock Street Theatre and presents a Main Stage series of six full productions and a Family Series of two to three productions each season.

In addition, our CityStage program and other educational outreach programs provide opportunities for artists to engage with the community through theatre performance and education.
2025/2026 Season includes the following;

Mainstage Series;

Joseph Buquet: 30s – 50s. The head flyman of the Opera Populaire. A dark character. Bass baritone; required to sing to E.
Don Attilio: 30s – 40s. Basso buffo with a solid and legitimate low F. A physically interesting character man with a good sense of comedy.
Confidante: 30s – 40s. Contralto or low mezzo. Physically interesting character woman.
Monsieur Reyer: 30s – 40s. Tenor. Character role. The repetiteur (vocal coach) of the Opera Populaire. An agitated, finicky, meticulous fellow. A strict disciplinarian, always on the verge of hysteria.
Passarino: 30s – 40s. Baritone with top F#. Manservant and sidekick of “Don Juan” in Don Juan Triumphant, one of the operas within the show.
Singer ensemble: Seeking performers with strong legit musical theatre or opera trained voices to contribute to an operatic choral sound. EFFIE WHITE – Female late 20s Black / African American. Lead Singer of The Dreamettes. A powerhouse and soaring singer with undeniable and overpowering talent. The true underdog. A headstrong, vibrant, confident, and outspoken young woman. A diva. Has an exceptional belt and vocal stamina to sustain 8 performances/week.


DEENA JONES – Female late 20s Black / African American. Initially modest backup singer for The Dreamettes, turned lead singer of The Dreams. An ‘ingenue’ who possess the poise of what Curtis assumes a stereotypical leading lady to look like, and a quiet confidence beyond her years. Mezz, with a full belt.


LORELL ROBINSON – Female late 20s Black / African American. The softest and youngest of the three Dreams. Although she is bubbly, youthful, and flirtatious, she is also pragmatic and eager for success. Soprano, on top of most triad harmony, with a full belt.

CURTIS TAYLOR JR - Male late 30s+ Black / African American. Slick and forceful used car salesman, who becomes the Dreams’ and Jimmy’s manager. Dates Effie, but eventually Deena. Becomes consumed with wealth and power. Handsome Tenor.


JAMES THUNDER EARLY – Male 30+ Black / African American. James Brown-like star who takes on Dreamettes as backup singers. A showbiz type who is high-energy, verging on chaotic with an endless amount of charm and charisma. Rock/R&B tenor.

Details:

Hair notes: Men: should have longer/shag haircuts. Long rocker style is also great. No fades, buzz cuts, or super short hair for me. For women: any length is great, chin/shoulder length is ideal. Layers are great. No long extensions. Curly hair and perms are great!

You must be ok working interior and exterior, have no allergies to wool, and be ok working around atmospheric smoke.

Everyone cast will most likely need to attend a costume fitting in NJ prior to the shoot date.

As always, production asks for full day/night availability, do not submit if you don't have full day/night availability for the shoot date.

Height, weight, and clothing sizes are asked for costuming purposes only. Sizes are only needed as information to help the costume department pull clothing at your wardrobe fitting.

This background performer role is covered by a SAG-AFTRA CBA and subject to a Preference of Employment provision. Must be able to present valid identification to fill out a Federal I9 form and be paid.

Note that this will be filming mostly in New Jersey. Production provides a courtesy van for Jersey locations not near public transportation.

SAG-AFTRA has approved a twenty-four (24) minutes reduction of travel time on the front and back end (for a total of 48 minutes) for all covered background actors' travel time in connection with these tentatively scheduled shoot dates filming in Asbury Park, NJ (Dec 9-13, Dec, 16, 2024).
