SEA Costume design, Zoom Halloween monologues

     Dear Rainy Day Community,

Happy (late) July! We hope you've been having a fabulous summer so far - and surviving the heat, if you're in one of the many places that seem to be having an extra hot summer right now.

Without further ado, let's get into this month's news and announcements - they're relatively short and sweet.

FALL SEATTLE MAINSTAGE - RADIUM GIRLS!

Exciting news "Radium Girls" has been fully cast and our first rehearsal / table read is next week - we'll put up a "Meet the Cast" post on social media soon (but the cast list is also on the ticketing page).

We're excited to be working with a new-to-us performance venue, ReAct Theatre, for this production, and to increase our run length from six to seven performances, all happening between September 18-27.

At this time we're still looking for a costume and/or makeup designer. If you're in the Seattle area and would like to be considered for one or both, please reach out directly to Jack Seamus at at jasperjackc@gmail.com. A small stipend is available, plus full reimbursement of any expenses incurred for supplies.

Tickets are on sale now - unfortunately we won't be able to livestream this one for our audiences in other locales (though we dearly hope to be able to do this for some mainstages in the future as resources and budget may allow), but if you're in the Seattle area we hope to see you in the audience this fall! For the first time, we're also introducing discounted rates for students!

Buy your tickets here - space is limited! https://events.humanitix.com/rainy-day-artistic-collective-presents-radium-girls

For those of you who aren't in the Seattle area - we're working on ways to bring Virtual Mainstages back in a more sustainable way. We aren't quite ready to announce anything yet, but be prepared - we might have something in the works for the 2027 Season, which we're hoping will be our biggest and most ambitious season yet!

    HALLOWEEN VIRTUAL MONOLOGUE SHOWCASE!

This fall, we're thrilled to be bringing back the Halloween Virtual Monologue Showcase, which was our first ever Monologue Showcase theme back in 2023 (time flies!). Ten Halloween themed monologues will be featured, plus an extra-special sneak peek of an upcoming project (more on this soon).

It will take place virtually on October 25th at 12pm PST - mark your calendars!

RSVP here if you want to attend (it's free for everyone, but this helps us make sure everyone who wants to come gets the link): https://events.humanitix.com/halloween-monologue-showcase. Any donations will go directly towards a project in our 2027 season.

Since interest in monologue showcases has increased lately, and also in the interest of fairness in casting (especially when it comes to getting to know new-to-us actors!), this time we'll be holding auditions (which will involve submitting a self tape). Anyone who is cast in the showcase will only be responsible for performing one piece. Plus, we're trying out another new thing: casting the role of the Emcee (who will be the evening's host/announcer but will likely not perform a monologue) from the pool of any interested auditioners. Not much else will change from previous monologue showcases.

The casting call for the Halloween Monologue Showcase isn't out quite yet, but we'll post about it on social media as soon as it's up. If you don't have social media and/or just want to be notified about it directly, please let us know and we'll email you when auditions are open.

    RAINY DAY READ THROUGHS!

The "Rainy Day Read Through" program has seen continued success, so much so that we're trying them out monthly for the time being. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen!

August's reading will be Shakespeare's "The Tempest," and sign ups are open now. We will be having a session on August 25th at 6pm PST, which will be hosted by community member Ryan Altman. Since this is a very popular play, if you're not available on that date and are still interested, fill out the form anyway - that'll let us know that more people want to do it and may affect future scheduling.

The "Tempest" sign up link is here: https://forms.gle/uhu88UFMsNucUkSGA.

September's reading is going to be Arthur Miller's "The Crucible." Sign ups are not open yet - please let us know if you'd like to be notified when we open them in a few weeks or so.

In order to keep these happening on a monthly basis, we're also looking for volunteers to help host these readings. If you're interested, or just curious about what that entails, please reach out. Note: if you haven't taken part in a ReadThrough yet, that's totally okay, although we do prefer for hosts to have attended at least one ReadThrough session before taking on any hosting duties.

And as always, if you have suggestions for plays, there's a place on all of our sign up forms to suggest them, or you can email us with your suggestions and we'll add them to our running list - we haven't selected any readings past September yet. We're most likely to choose plays that are free to read somewhere online, as this makes

scripts far more accessible to our readers.

Able to use his voice like an instrument and ability to do other voices. Slightly immature, approaching/in his 30s and in denial about the meaning he may need to grow up and take responsibility for his life. Sid

    Lead. All Genders. 18+

Early thirties. He/him. A sound technician. Gentle nerdy energy. friendly and playful, but with an edge where it's not always clear if he's joking or being direct & cruel. Humor is an important part of his tool-kit early on, but then shifts to something much more sinister later with a real, terrifying, raw pain of living with an uncontrollable fear of fatherhood and all the horror it brings to the surface. Someone we immediately trust and has the power to betray us. Skilled with a British accent.
