Production Description
Seeking
Equity actors for roles in 2022 season (see breakdown) including "A
Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum," "Man of La Mancha,"
"Mala," and "The Revolutionists."
Production states: "Synopsis
for 'Mala:' A darkly funny tale about what it means to put our loved
ones first, right to the very end, and what happens when we strive to be
good but don’t always succeed. It is a comical and brutally honest look
at family dynamics, including stubborn parents and unequipped children,
and explores the unsentimental poetry of everyday life. A one-woman
tour-de-force for a powerful actress, Mala careens from comedy to deep
pathos, while having the toughest conversation about the most common of
events—the end of life.' - Dramatists Play Service.
Synopsis for
'Man of La Mancha': LDTC’s production will be performed by (12)
actor/musicians. Character assignments may change and all actors will
need to be instrumentalists, as well. Specific instrument assignments
are TBD. Accepted instruments are: guitar (acoustic, mandolin, banjo,
etc), strings (cello, bass, violin, viola, etc) 'Miguel de Cervantes,
aging and an utter failure in his varied careers as playwright, poet and
tax collector, sits in a Seville dungeon with his manservant, awaiting
trial by the Spanish Inquisition for an offense against the Church. The
other prisoners set up a mock trial: if Cervantes is found guilty, he
will hand over all his possessions. Cervantes agrees to do so, and
offers his defense in the form of a play. Producing a makeup kit, he
transforms himself into an old man who calls himself Don Quixote de La
Mancha.' - The Musical Company.
Synopsis for 'A Funny Thing
Happened On The Way to the Forum.' LDTC’s production will be performed
by (12) actor/musicians. 'Broadway's greatest farce is light,
fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever
written. 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum' takes comedy
back to its roots, combining situations from timetested, 2000-year-old
comedies of Roman playwright, Plautus, with the infectious energy of
classic vaudeville. 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum' is a
nonstop laughfest in which Pseudolus, a crafty slave, struggles to win
the hand of a beautiful, but slow-witted, courtesan named Philia for his
young master, Hero, in exchange for freedom. The plot twists and turns
with cases of mistaken identity, slamming doors and a showgirl or two.
This unforgettable, hysterical musical allows a terrific ensemble of
comedic actors to shine – 'something for everyone, a comedy tonight!' -
MTI.
Synopsis for 'The Revolutionists': 'Four beautiful, badass
women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set
during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de
Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons)
Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder
Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This
grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and
activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and
how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story. Or total
fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in
a song and a scaffold.' - Dramatists Play Service.
