Position Summary
Reporting
to the Director, the incumbent leads production, operations, and staff
at the Lenfest Center for the Arts, a multi-venue building that
incubates, produces, and presents educational and professional
exhibitions, events, performances, screenings, and artistic projects
developed by the School of the Arts, the Wallach Art Gallery, and
collaborating partners. Leads planning and execution for upwards of 300
events per year, oversees the production management and audience
services teams, and directs facility and venue operations. Plays a major
role in day-to-day decision making and collaborates with the Director
and School of the Arts senior leadership in long-term strategic
planning. Other related duties as assigned. This position requires
frequent evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities
--Directs
the planning and execution of multiple concurrent events, including
classes, lectures, performances, screenings, exhibitions, and venue
rentals; manages and allocates Center resources; anticipates and meets
technical, production, and operational needs for Center activity;
advises on venue policies and industry best practices; leads production
planning meetings; and fosters high quality customer service for the
Center’s diverse audiences, artists, performers, students, faculty, and
staff
--Leads the full-time and hourly production management and
audience services teams, including recruitment, training, payroll, and
annual performance reviews; fosters a collegial and inclusive
environment to cultivate strengths that enable everyone to do their best
work
--Directs facility and venue operations, including the
policies, systems, and procedures that ensure safe and effective
operations, in compliance with University policy and industry safety
standards; serves as the Center’s liaison with Columbia University’s
Facilities and Operations Departments; ensures that the appearance and
general condition of the lobby, restrooms, venues, and other building
spaces are appropriate
--Maintains understanding and knowledge of the
Center’s technical systems for audio, film/video, lighting, and
networked communication, including an accurate inventory of equipment
and supplies; oversees the maintenance, safe operation, and circulation
of shared building equipment; selects and supervises outside
professionals for specialized repairs; maintains inspection and repair
records; and makes recommendations for replacements and upgrades
--Manages the Center’s complex calendar of record, event database, resource management systems, and record keeping
--Oversees
development and administration of estimates, contracts, and invoices
for revenue-generating rental events; monitors income and expenses for
Center activity; prepares analysis of data for School of the Arts senior
leadership
--Responsible for building-wide and venue-specific
lock-up, security, and emergency procedures; serves as the Center’s
liaison with Columbia University’s Public Safety and Fire Safety
Departments
--Certified as NYC Fire Guard for Lenfest Center venues
Minimum Qualifications
--Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required, as is four to six years of related professional experience.
--Demonstrated experience managing staff and leading teams is required.
--Must
have substantial knowledge of producing academic or performing arts
events, including knowledge of technical systems for audio, film/video,
and lighting.
--Must be highly organized, with strong time management and problem-solving skills, and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
--Excellent written and oral communication skills, judgment, initiative, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
--Flexible and adaptable work style, ability to prioritize, multitask, delegate, and manage deadlines
--Understanding and knowledge of technical theater disciplines including the ability to read technical design drawings

--Strong service-oriented attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
--A high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and in the use of event management databases is required.
--Must be able to work nights and weekends
