Trainee Lighting Technician
Experience of working in a backstage theatre environment is desirable but not essential. An understanding of moving lights and DMX running is desirable but not essential. The ability to wire a plug and understand the health & safety precautions necessary to work with electricity is essential. Conventional lighting fixture focusing is desirable but not essential.

Technical skills requirement and duties: Learn and operate multiple plots on the production including 4 followspot, 2 stage LX and ETC Desk board operator plots. Act as follow spot operator ensuring that the follow spot is functioning correctly before and during performances, performing cues as directed and able to maintain the spot to a great standard. Learn and undertake weekly preparation for the maintenance of the lighting rig, including gel cutting. Learn and undertake weekly maintenance of the lighting rig and follow spots with the Lighting team. Learning how to read lighting plans and execute necessary changes.

Other requirements: English language skills. Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently. A strong team player. Ability to follow instructions and department rules. A motivated individual with a drive to learn new skills and understand what is required to maintain a consistent high production standard. Discretion and ability to work closely with others. Well organised across all work.

This role will require the candidate to undertake manual handling. This role will require the candidate to work: At height using a variety of access equipment so will include climbing, in the dark and in confined spaces. This role will require the candidate to understand and follow the Health and safety rules & regulations in place at the the production.

Dates & Locations

Works 40 hours per week, weekend and evening work integral (Tues. to Sun. show schedule) for 12 months at the Lyceum theatre, London.

Compensation & Contract

Additional: Fixed term 12 month contract.
