Production Description

Seeking video submissions from Equity actors for roles in "Powerhouse." All stage managerial positions have been filled. NYC actors are encouraged to submit. Synopsis: "Powerhouse" centers on a powerful female lawyer, Regan, in her late 40’s who is being pushed out of a Law Firm due to a personal relationship she is having with a much younger lawyer, also in the Firm. Regan is relentless and passionate - a fantastic tour-de-force role. The play poses the question “What happens when a woman truly owns her power?” You will ponder on the traditional roles women and men play, especially in business. "Powerhouse" runs about 90 minutes with no intermission.

Actors & Performers

Regan Van Riper: 50-60
50, female-identifying. Regan is a senior partner at Breeden and head of M&A. Regan is an ambitious, self-made woman who has achieved great success through hard work, intelligence, and fearless self-confidence; her career has long been the exclusive source of satisfaction in her life. She is generally honest and fair but is willing to do what it takes to get what she wants, especially if she believes someone is blocking her path unjustly. She has little sympathy, however, for those who feel they have been treated unfairly; if they can’t make it on their own, she believes, they should accept their lot.

Guy Stone: 35-40
cast - seeking standby. 35, male-identifying. Guy is a senior M&A associate at Breeden who, while passed over for partner last year, expects to make it at the annual partners meeting next month. He’s a good associate but no superstar and can’t get there without Regan’s support. While he’s intelligent and amiable, he is also nawve and owes his success thus far more to hard work than to exceptional qualities. He has long believed he must be a success and has devoted his life to achieving it but without ever questioning why or whether he actually likes his work.

To apply, see the "Key Details" section below

Janet Shaney: 61-70
61, female-identifying. Shaney is the head of HR at Breeden and a lawyer by training. She attended law school at night in her 30s but was unable to secure employment as a practicing lawyer. She joined Breeden HR in an entry-level administrative position and over the years worked her way up to the top spot in HR. She is sensitive about her status at the Firm as an administrator rather than a lawyer and has sought to overcome it by being Peebles’s loyal confidant in HR matters. Her work and devotion to him are the centers of her life.

To apply, see the "Key Details" section below

Norris Peebles: 67-70
67, Black, male-identifying. Peebles is a senior partner at Breeden and Chairman of its Governing Board. Peebles has succeeded as Chairman largely because he has always shown his peers respect and (appeared to) put the interests of the Firm ahead of his own. As he and most of the other Board members have approached retirement age, younger partners have become restive about the Firm’s leadership, believing it is time for Peebles and the other Board members to pass the torch to them. Peebles has resisted out of concern not only for his own position but because he believes the younger generation, including Regan most prominently, is more focused on financial success than on preserving Firm culture. These concerns have undermined his effectiveness as a leader and made him amenable to sometimes unwise efforts to “protect the Firm.”

Meena Cizinski: 30-35
cast - seeking standby. 32, female-identifying. Unable to find steady work in social work, has joined the HR department at Breeden. She is intelligent and ambitious and believes she is better trained and more capable than Shaney, her boss, in dealing with “people” issues of the kind HR must resolve. She sees Guy as a victim of Regan’s greedy appetites and believes passionately that Regan, not Guy, should be held to account for the illicit affair. Her feelings are also colored by her personal fondness for Guy.
