Presented findings from the 2022 Survey of Nonunion Professionals to SPEEA, IFPTE Local 2001 member leaders based in Wichita, Kansas. The program included a discussion about approaches to organizing conversations using data from national survey as well as a training component, which was led by Susanne Murphy, Contract Administrator for SPEEA Wichita.
Organizing - created a webpage for tax preparers to learn more about their workplace rights and the union organizing process. We’ve begun testing out the effectiveness of Reddit ads by targeting tax preparers on Reddit and directing them to this page.
We are working with OPEIU Local 98 to test the effectiveness of Reddit ads and TikTok ads aimed at RAs. So far, we’ve created a landing page with information for RAs about forming a union. The page can be viewed here.
AEMI - Activities of the arts, entertainment, and media unions in February:
Connected US Department of Labor staff with AEMI unions for DOL’s Black History Month “Making Equity Real: Creating Career Pathways and Good Jobs in the Arts'’ event. As part of the event Secretary Su moderated a panel with members of AFM, AGMA, IATSE, SAG-AFTRA, and SDC. In addition, Calandra Hackney, Actors’ Equity Association Assistant Executive Director for the Eastern Region, gave closing remarks. You can watch the event recording here.
Facilitated a meeting between the AEMI and DOL senior staff to discuss AEMI priorities.
Met with USTR staff to discuss priorities related to digital trade and the WTO Ministerial Conference. Affiliates participating in this meeting included DGA, IATSE, SAG-AFTRA, and WGAE.
AEMI Organizing Directors met on the 12th to discuss industry issues and share organizing updates.
Issued a statement applauding USTR’s release of its Notorious Markets for Counterfeiting and Piracy report with its focus on content theft.
Convened the broadcast unions (AFM, IBEW, IATSE, DGA, SAG-AFTRA, and WGAE) on the 9th to discuss ongoing initiatives and collaboration.
Updated and distributed the employment and unemployment data for the arts, entertainment, and media industry. The update is here.
Policy/Legislative - Met with staff from Senate and House offices to discuss federal arts funding priorities.
Met with staff from Departments of State and Commerce to discuss international AI issues.
Participated in a labor stakeholder meeting with the NSC; Departments of State, Labor, Homeland Security; and USAID to discuss the U.S. government’s migration and protection pathways initiatives.

Upcoming Event - On March 21st at 9am join the Albert Shanker Institute, AFT, and the Center for American Progress for Passion Meets Purpose: Promising Pathways Through Experiential Learning.
