Breakdown Of Roles

Carlton - Carlton is a young guy who came down from Vermont to work in NYC. He’s a white guy 25 years old. He lives in Hoboken above Nick. He works at Cantor as an assistant to Sully. Sings one song. No instrument. He’s young and excited to be in NYC. His dream come true. Dies on 9/11. Sings.

Elizabeth - Is married to Carlton, recent newlyweds…she’s also young… 23, 26 ish. She is Hoboken the day of 9/11. Any ethnicity. No instrument. She has a deeply spiritual moment when she communes with the dead. Sings.

Donna - Mid 30s…any ethnicity… Donna has just had a baby in May and taken the whole summer off before returning. No instrument. Donna dies on 9/11. She returns as a ghost. Sings.

Nick - Early 40s. Runs a trading desk in the WTC. Married to Nellie. Great friends with Sully. Wants to learn to sing. Survives 9/11. Heartbroken at the loss of Sully, Carlton, and Donna. Sings

Mary - Mid 30s. Married to Sully. She and him are having serious marital problem. Sings a beautiful solo after Sully dies on 9/11. Has important soliloquy in Act 2 about death. Sings.

Susan - Susan is late 40s. She is divorced and has two grown kids. She was one of the first women into the trading business. Although hardened by life she finds compassion after 9/11. Like the other survivors she has an epiphany. She doesn’t sing.

Tommy - Tommy is 35. He grew up in NYC and worked in the mail room. But he made it out onto the trading floor and now lives in the suburbs. Although he was a happy, joking, funny guy before 9/11, He changes afterwards. He becomes bitter, angry. Sings.

The Narrator - The Narrator is the creator of this musical…me. It’s my real life experience and I am on stage singing and narrating the action taking place. The play is my memory. I don’t actually interact with the cast. I’m simply driving the piece. Singing required.
