Include a brief description of any relevant basketball experience.
Preparation instructions: Prepare a brief monologue no longer than 2
minutes in length. Note: Check back by Dec. 14 as we may be able to
provide an audition option for sides from the play. If sides become
available, physical sides will not be available at the EPA, so actors
should bring their own physical or electronic copy to use when they
audition. Please note that through the end of December, members must
schedule an audition appointment online in advance in order to attend
this audition. There will be no walk-ins, alternate lists, or any
appointments scheduled on the day of the audition. EPA Procedures are in
effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will be provided. For more
information, visit www.lct.org.
Everyone
entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members,
non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, etc.)
will be required to show proof of COVID vaccination prior to entry into
the venue. (Anyone with a medical or religious exemption from
vaccination, should e-mail ahoeschen@actorsequity.org
with vaccination exemption in the subject line and attach proof of
exemption in advance of their appointment. Information provided will be
kept confidential). Anyone with symptoms of COVID, flu, or any other
infectious disease that can be transmitted by casual contact should not
attend the auditions. Everyone participating in the auditions is
encouraged to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s
mask, or respirator (N95, KN95, or KF94). Single-ply face masks,
gaiters, and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found
at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.
If the risk level for New York County is trending upwards and may rise
to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 48
hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there
is a chance that the auditions may need to be postponed or canceled. All
members with appointments will be notified at least 24 hours in advance
if the auditions must be postponed or canceled. We encourage members to
prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to
the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to
avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.
AGMA members who
have been in good standing for at least one year, Canadian Equity
members, Equity Membership Candidates (EMCs), and non-Equity actors may
sign up for the non-Equity audition waiting list by completing the form
at https://forms.office.com/r/P6VLSGTQs9.
Any appointments available after the deadline has passed for Equity
members to sign up will be assigned from the waiting list. LCT is
committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in all areas of
its structure and operations as attention to these goals makes it
stronger and helps better serve the artists, staff, crew, audience, and
community at large. LCT welcomes candidates who are fully committed to
joining a theater that is proactively focused on diversity, equity, and
inclusion. Applicants from populations underrepresented in theater and
who align themselves with LCT’s values and goals are encouraged to
apply. Note: Adherence to all applicable New York State, New York City,
and CDC public health and safety guidelines will be required of all
employees. Actors must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 to be considered
for an offer of employment.
Equity’s contracts prohibit
discrimination. Equity is committed to diversity and encourages all its
employers to engage in a policy of equal employment opportunity designed
to promote a positive model of inclusion. As such, Equity encourages
performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as
performers with disabilities, to attend every audition.
Additional Materials
Starra
Jones: 18 and above to play late teens. Female identifying.
Black/African American. Point guard. Ambitious and fiercely competitive.
Singularly focused on her dream of being drafted by a D1 school and
ultimately going pro in the WNBA. Team captain and longtime leader of
the group, she thinks quickly, moves quickly, works tirelessly, and
dreams endlessly.
Sidney Brown: 18 and above to play late teens.
Female identifying. Black/African American. Shooting guard. A recent
transplant from Oakland, CA, she’s the only team member who’s not from
Plainnole. Starra’s main competition. Athletic, a formidable player.
Competitive and sharp. Being scouted by college teams and confident that
she’ll be recruited.
Cherise Howard: 18 and above to play late
teens. Black/African American. Female identifying. Power forward.
Starra’s cousin. Religious and focused. She wants everyone to get along
and believes in always playing by the rules. Unlike the others, she is
not looking to leave their small town. In love with Donna but lying to
her team about it. Please note any singing ability.
April
Jenkins: 18 and above to play late teens. Black/African American. Female
identifying. Shooting guard. As a player, she's fearless and a real
hustler on the court. Sensitive and strong, reliable and, usually,
everyone’s best friend. She has a high stakes decision she must make
that’s putting her under enormous duress.
Donna Cunningham: 18
and above to play late teens. Black/African American. Female
identifying. Center. As the center, she truly holds the ground together
for her team. Smart, funny and grounded, with a mature sense of herself.
Has a college academic scholarship in place for next year. She’s losing
patience with Cherise’s denial of their relationship. Out to her team,
though not to her family.
Coach Francine Pace: Early-Mid 40s.
Black/African American, female identifying. The team’s coach, a longtime
member of the community, she knows her team and knows their families.
Strict and disciplined, but loving and supportive. Really cares about
everyone’s well-being, not just their basketball skills. Seasoned, but
still willing to learn.
