Production Description
Casting "Carousel," Opera San Luis Obispo's (OperaSLO) 2022 full-production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical. This production of Carousel represents a “grand” and rare performance opportunity featuring full sets, costumes, ballet, chorus, and accompanied by the full OperaSLO Grand Orchestra approximately (40-person ensemble). Production states: "Opera plays an important role as the genre of classical music responsible for uniting more art forms together, on one stage, than any other form of performance art. We acknowledge our genre of performance is often experienced by thousands in a single production, which imposes a greater responsibility and push to enact positive change through our work, practices, educational programs and policies. Base pay: 312 p/w (negotiable)

1,200 Seat House, Fly system, etc.
Production: 40-44 Person cast (auditions this weekend)

Rehearsals run Apr. 18 in San Luis Obispo, CA; runs May 7-8 in Miossi Hall of the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo.

Auditions (by appointment) Mar. 12 from 1:30-6 p.m. & Mar. 13 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Academy of Dance located at 3422 Miguelito Ct in San Luis Obispo. Walk-up auditions will be taken in the order they arrive, as time allows. Callbacks/Dance Call (if necessary) run Mar. 13 from 3-6 p.m. at the Academy of Dance. For consideration, submit your resume, head shot, conflicts between Apr. 18 and May 9. If submitting and can not be present at auditions, include your resume, head shot, reels (if available) and prepare a video submission of singing a 32 bar selection of a musical theatre piece in the style of Rodgers and Hammerstein or from the show. Talent must prepare 32 bars of a song from or in the style of the show. If using sheet music, an accompanist will be provided. If using a cd or phone, a speaker will be provided. Regardless of whether using an accompanist or recording, please provide two hard-copies of audition repertoire for the auditioners. There will be no Acapella auditions. You may be asked to read a side from the show as well. Candidates only interested in specific leading roles must prepare the following audition: Julie Jordan: “If I Loved You”; Billy Bigelow: “Soliloquy”; Carrie Pipperidge: “Mr Snow”; Enoch Snow: “When The Children Are Asleep”; Nettie Fowler: “June Is Busting Out All Over” or “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. All candidates for auditions must be fully vaccinated and provide a photo of or vaccine card PRIOR to audition. No PCR testing.
