I'm casting LATE AND CRYING, a new short film from Director, Richard Simon. LOGLINE: A dark comedy that follows siblings Richard and Maia drifting through their great grandmother’s wake. Richard is concerned that he will not be able to cry and is terrified to see the body, while Maia tries to survive unbearably ignorant conversations with family. PROJECT DETAILS: Type: Non Union Short Film Title:

LATE AND CRYING Producer: Marissa Rubin Director: Richard Simon Casting Director: Violette Trotter Usage: Film festival circuit and TBD for future distribution Rate: $150 per day Shoot Dates: January 16-18, 2024 Shoot Location: New York, NY

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:

[MAIA] 24 to 28 years old, White woman. Richard’s older sister who is often infuriated by the family, or at least specific members. Although a real altruist, she often resents her family, believing that they haven’t acknowledged her maturity and growth into adulthood. Despite this, she approaches with a friendly smile on her face and tries her hardest. She just wants to make it through the service. LEAD

[TONY] 40 to 60 years old, Italian-American man. Richard’s Uncle is a man of enormous stature. He is bold, crass, and sometimes rude, but underneath all that is a guy who just wants a hug. He is distraught by the death of his mother and he struggles enormously to keep his masculine shell together, but it inevitably comes crumbling down as he continues to fail at being vulnerable. SUPPORTING

[JOANNA] 60 to 80 years old, White woman. Although she is not blood-related to the family, she might as well be. She never quite recovered from a stroke earlier in her life and because of that, she wanders aimlessly until she finds someone to talk to. She is more sincere than most of the family but is not good at maintaining a filter. If you told her that it says gullible on the ceiling, she would look up and be very confused when she only sees tile. SUPPORTING

[JASON] 18 to 30 years old, White man. Richard’s cousin who has struggled with depression for a very, very, long time. Social spaces are difficult for him, but he deals with it because he doesn’t want to appear not okay. Out of everyone, he is affected the most by this death and can hardly bring himself to attend the service. He believes that the family walks on eggshells when speaking to him and feels like the family speaks to him out of necessity. DAY PLAYER

I'm looking forward to seeing your work! Best, Violette Trotter | Casting Director
