Casting
"Como Correr - A Hip-Pop Musical." Synopsis: A coming-of-age comedy for
a generation going numb. Tomi Russo, a high school senior stuck in the
crosshairs of a political revolution, is about to leave everything
behind like his immigrant family before him; but everything changes when
he meets a boy named Camilo. Como Correr is an examination of
queerness, latinidad, and political turmoil during early 2016 in absurd
Broward County, Florida.
Production states: "This piece takes
inspiration from hip-hop, stand-up comedy, Japanese and Western
animation ('One Piece,' 'Invader Zim,' 'Your Name,' 'The Simpsons,'
etc.), gig theatre, internet culture, underground outsider culture,
comic books/graphic novels, TV sitcoms ('Community, Atlanta,' 'Abbot
Elementary,' etc.) video games, and the Latin-American immigrant
experience. This is for a 29-hour reading of act one of 'Como Correr,' a
new musical in development, for which we are seeking the lead role of
Tomi Russo. 'Como Correr' is a 2022 O'Neill NMTC Finalist and a 2023
Kennedy Center ACTF Award Winner (Hip-Hop Theatre Creator Award)."
