Roles in this project

Pierre Dulaine
N/A. 18-99
Early 40s to Late 50s. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). A former ballroom dance champion and current dance instructor. Raised in multiple Mediterranean countries, he speaks with an accent that seems to reflect all of them. He is passionate, impulsive, prone to outbursts; but he is also inspiring, energizing, and a born leader. Baritone.

To apply, see the "Key Details" section below.

Arianna Rey
N/A. 18-99
30s, Black, Brown, AAPI, or MENA. Female (cis, trans, or non-binary) Arianna is the Interim Principal at Drake High School. Brimming with enthusiasm and drive, she is hoping to assume the principal position permanently. Alto Belt voice to E.

To apply, see the "Key Details" section below.

La Rhette
N/A. 18-99
17, Black. Female (cis, trans, or non-binary). Smart, curious, beautiful – but also trying to succeed academically in the face of significant pressure to help care for her family, and despite her anger and hurt over a longstanding feud with Rock and his brother. Dancing with Rock causes her to reconsider her assumptions about other people and to take the risk of falling in love. Mezzo/High Mix Belt to High A. Hip-hop dance ability.

To apply, see the "Key Details" section below.

Rock
N/A. 18-99
18, Black. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Strong, but quiet, Rock often feels persecuted for things he can’t control, and it’s caused him to turn inward, except for occasional flashes of frustration. Dancing unlocks a way of expressing himself and opens him up to a less defensive, more hopeful outlook on his future. Baritenor. Hip-hop dance ability.

To apply, see the "Key Details" section below.

Character Breakdown

Ensemble Singer: Excellent singer/dancers with hop-hop and or partner dancing ability.

Alan Ford: Early 40s to Early 50s, any race. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Also a former ballroom champion (though always placing second to Pierre). Alan is Pierre's romantic partner of nine years as well as his partner in their ballroom academy. Despite his love for Pierre, Alan has a more balanced, pragmatic side in business, and he is also more concerned with each student getting equal attention, which puts him at odds with Pierre’s take-no-prisoners style. Good singer. Some ballroom dance ability.

Eddie: 17, Black/Brown, Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). A wise guy and joker, prone to failing courses and being comically self-deprecating about it. Friendly and outgoing. Vocal Range: Tenor/Rapper. Hip-hop dancer.

Miguel: 17, Brown. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Fancies himself a skilled lover. He’s not. Vocal Range: Baritone. Hip-hop dancer.

Kurd: 16, white. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Gangly, energetic, but not entirely comfortable in his own skin — which leads him to try to copy the style and speech patterns of the other kids at Drake despite it not quite looking or sounding right on him. Vocal Range: Tenor. Hip-hop dancer.

Styx: 17, any race. Any gender (cis, trans, or non-binary). A quiet, Goth-style “dark cloud,” constantly refusing to dance due to various injuries which may or may not be real. Styx is a still water that runs deep, as we discover when Pierre asks them to function as class DJ and their musical abilities come to the fore. Vocal Range: Any. excellent hip-hop dance specialist.

Monster: 17, Black. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). A big kid with a big heart, but deeply shy. When paired up with Caitlin, their partnership soon becomes something more. Vocal Range: Bass/Baritone. Hip-hop dance ability.

Daniel: 18, Black. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Rock’s older brother, often getting into trouble with the law and anxious to make sure Rock stays close by his side. Vocal Range: Bass or Baritone. Hiphop dance ability.

Lance: 17, any race. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Morgan’s talented but slightly scattered partner. Excellent dancer with ballroom ability. Vocal Range: Any

Superintendent O’Hara: 50s, any race. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). the Drake High district superintendent. Currently on his plate: finding a new Drake principal and balancing the school budget by cutting non-essential programs. Vocal Range: Any.
