Production Description
EastLine Theatre is casting "Anna in the Tropics," the Pulitzer Prize winner from Nilo Cruz. Synopsis: Tampa, Florida, 1929 in a Cuban–American cigar factory, where cigars are still rolled by hand and “lectors” are employed to educate and entertain the workers, the arrival of a new lector is cause for celebration. But when he begins to read aloud from Anna Karenina, he unwittingly becomes a catalyst in the lives of his avid listeners, for whom Tolstoy, the tropics, and the American dream prove a volatile combination.

Seeking:
Cheché - 20-40s. Santiago's discontented half brother who would like to take over the cigar factory.
Production states: "Due to the content of the play, we do strongly suggest reading the piece before auditioning. Please be aware the characters in this play smoke cigars. We don't anticipate using any real or herbal cigars. Additionally please be aware this play contains gun violence, implied assault, and murder. The production will feature choreographed intimacy. Please see the audition form for more details."
Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations
Rehearses Aug. 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, 31, and Sept. 1 in Babylon (a short walk from the Babylon LIRR station); tech rehearsals TBD and performs Sept. 10, 11, 18, 23, 24, 30, Oct. 1, and 2 at Westbury Arts, 255 Schenck Avenue, Westbury (a short walk from the Westbury LIRR station). Further rehearsals will be scheduled around cast conflicts.
