Additional Instructions:

Audition will take place on a first come, first served basis beginning at 9:15 a.m. on the morning of the audition. No pre-scheduled appointments. Be warmed up and ready to dance when the call begins. Performers will be called in groups. All performers: Bring ballet flats and tap shoes. Some performers may be asked to cold read from sides from the show after the dance audition. Also, bring a headshot and resume. Callback Sept. 17 (10 a.m.). An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.

Character Breakdown

Mrs. Wilkinson: Female, 30+, Vocal range top: Bb5, Vocal range bottom: Gb3, Heavy dance role. The local ballet teacher who eventually becomes Billy's mentor. Hardened and mouthy, she actually has capacity for caring when she sees promise in Billy. Believes in the power of personal expression through dance.

Mr Braithwaite: Gender: Open, 20+, Vocal range top: Baritone Middle C, Vocal range bottom: G2, Jazz and Heavy tap dance role. Mr. Braithwaite is the accompanist for Mrs. Wilkinson’s ballet class.

George: Gender: Open, 20+, Vocal range top: Baritone Middle C, Vocal range bottom: G2, Jazz and some tap dance role. George is a miner in a small village in the north-east of England. He is the boxing coach for the boys in the village.

Billy Elliot: (this role has been cast), Male, 12+, Vocal range top: C5, Vocal range bottom: E3. A boy who stumbles upon a ballet class and develops a passion for dance. To him, dance is a way to feel whole and free himself from the problems of life. He finds himself stuck between appeasing family and chasing his newfound love.

Jackie Elliot: (this role has been cast), Male, 40+, Vocal range top: Eb4, Vocal range bottom: A2. Billy's stoic father. A widowed miner struggling with maintaining a household in lieu of a work strike, he is still deeply scarred by the death of his wife. Billy's dancing initially sends him into a rage, but he learns to support his son.
