Location: NYC NON-UNION Storyline: In this darkly comedic two-hander, Lee, a moderately successful artist in her 70s, is determined to paint a portrait of her daughter Petra, who has recently become a mother herself. With a big gallery show just weeks away, Lee is putting the finishing touches on the painting while Petra dutifully poses. All is going well until Lee decides to let Petra see the painting. Petra hates it. Usually eager to please her mother, this time she can't hide her disappointment. And anger. A battle of wills ensues over Lee's right to show the painting, one that goes deep into the pair's history. Truths come to the surface that will permanently change the women's relationship to each other and themselves.
Director's Bio: Antonia Grilikhes-Lasky (she/her) is an award-winning, New-York born & bred filmmaker. Her short films have been recognized at top film festivals across the country, including Aspen Film Festival, Nashville Film Fest, HollyShorts, and Athens Film+Video. With a background in theater and dramaturgy, she has worked as a consultant with artists including Tony Kushner, Steven Spielberg, Rebecca Miller, and writer/performer Sarah Jones, and serves as a choreographic mentor for the NYC Ballet's Choreographic Institute.
Roles:
[YOUNG PETRA] 7-8 year old version of Petra; girl. In a flashback, the young girl is playing with friends at a playground and is invited to hold a broken piece of colored glass (dull, not sharp). After some hesitation, Young Petra takes the glass, holds it up to the sky, and admires the light filtering through it. Then she looks through the glass at her mother, sitting on a park bench. SUPPORTING
