Production Description

Casting Equity actors for roles in "Choir Boy." Synopsis: Pharus, a talented student, has been waiting for years to take his rightful place as the leader of the legendary gospel choir at the Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys. Pharus bravely stands up to the traditions that would silence his voice in this Tony Award- winning drama by Oscar winner Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight). Featuring gorgeous รก cappella gospel music, this soaring musical drama illuminates the collision of masculinity, tradition and self-discovery. Bass/Valle Casting encourages people of all races, ages, ethnicities, abilities and gender identities to apply. Pharus Jonathan Young: 18+

late teens, an effeminate young man of color. Begins the play a junior at the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys and the Lead of the School's famous choir. He is roommates with AJ James.

Robert “Bobby” Marrow III: 18+

mid to late teens, a young man of color, Bobby is a junior at the Charles R Drew Prep School, and member of the School's Choir. He is also nephew to Headmaster Marrow.

a teenage young man of color, and a junior at the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys. He is a member of the School's Choir.

Anthony Justin “AJ” James: 18+

in his late teens, athletic young man of color, a senior at the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys. He is a member of the School's Choir and the Schools Baseball Team. He is roommates with Pharus Young.

Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations

Rehearsals begin Jan. 18, 2022; runs Feb. 18-Mar. 13 in Philadelphia, PA. Note: All performers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the CDC (i.e., more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine) by Jan. 2, 2022. Any actor requiring a medical or religious exemption must provide written documentation for the exemption during the hiring process.

Compensation & Union Contract Details

Professional Pay: $739/WeeklyPays $739/wk. Equity LORT D Contract.

While vocal type will not be assigned to an individual character in the audition process, the ensemble of male characters will include a lead, a tenor 1, tenor 2, a baritone, and a bass. Their ranges should be: Tenor 1: C3-C5; Tenor 2: C3-G4; Baritone: A2-E4; Bass: D2-D4
