VIRTUAL ONE ACT FESTIVAL
This year, Rainy Day Artistic Collective is celebrating Pride Month with our Queer Voices Virtual One Act Festival, and the call for scripts is below! We are not able to provide playwrights a stipend, but there is no submission fee and the event is free to attend for everyone.
For those interested in auditioning, a casting call will be released in May, after our script selection is finalized.
Theme: Short plays written BY AUTHORS WHO IDENTIFY AS QUEER IN ANY WAY. Although queer stories, characters, and themes are encouraged, they are not absolutely mandatory. If you want to submit a piece but do not wish to out yourself publicly, and your piece is chosen, authorship can be made anonymous throughout the entire process - only the Script Selection Committee would know your identity in this case.
5 to 10 total scripts will be selected for this festival, depending on various factors.
We ask that playwrights refrain from submitting scripts that are above a “PG-13” in rating (i.e. no nudity, excessive violence, or sexually explicit material). This is not due to the festival having queer content - these are the exact standards to which we hold scripts for all of our Virtual One Act Festivals. Please reach out with any questions.
Since our festival will be performed 100% virtually, plays that are specifically written for virtual performance, though not required, are a plus. Pieces that do not translate effectively from stage to screen may not be selected. Not required but helpful: if your piece is written originally for a “traditional stage,” you may include suggestions with your submission on how it might translate.
The festival will have one or two “Blocks,” depending on how many pieces we select. NOTE: if we select between 5 and 7 pieces, we may only have one “Block,” which will most likely be Block A. If between 8 and 10 pieces are selected, we will have two “Blocks.”
Block A will perform: June 26th at 6:30pm PST and June 27th at 2pm PST.
Block B will perform: June 27th at 6:30pm PST and June 28th at 2pm PST.
Scripts should be about 8-15 minutes long with 2-3 speaking characters.
Please note, we will not be accepting: monologues, scripts that significantly exceed the recommended length (think roughly 1 to 1.5 minutes per page, depending on formatting), or scripts with more than 2-3 speaking characters total - no exceptions will be made.
All pieces will be performed 100% live, i.e. on livestream and not pre-recorded, unless otherwise arranged. Actors will be performing from their homes. RDAC has adopted a policy where, in the interest of providing a live theater experience to our virtual audiences and performers, we do not present pre-recorded pieces except in unavoidable circumstances.
No experience required and no submission fees. Unfortunately we are not able to provide a stipend of any kind at this time, though we are working towards this as our top financial goal for future festivals as we (very slowly but surely) grow and expand our operations.
TO BE CONSIDERED: Please email a BLIND COPY (no identifying information whatsoever in the document) to us at rainydayrevue@gmail.com by no later than 11:59pm on April 25th, 2026. To keep submissions fair, we cannot consider any plays that are not submitted as a blind copy.
Limit of one play submission per playwright. Joint authorship counts as submission for all authors. If more than one script is submitted by a playwright, we will select randomly between them. For this festival, please do not submit excerpts from longer works.
LATE SUBMISSIONS OR THOSE THAT DO NOT FOLLOW ALL OF THE ABOVE GUIDELINES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS EVENT.
FALL 2026 IN PERSON MAINSTAGE!
We are proud to confirm that this year's season marks our first ever season with two "in person" mainstage shows in Seattle. Unfortunately the plans for our original play fell through, but we should be able to finally announce our fall play in the next few weeks. Performances are likely to be at the end of September, with the most probable run being Sept. 18-27. Keep tabs on our socials for more!
Of course things are still in the works, but we'll need a Stage Manager, one or two ASMs, and possibly some designers. If you're in the Seattle area and interested in getting involved, please reach out.
Due to various factors, Virtual Mainstages still continue to be on hiatus - we may or may not have one in 2027, but will continue to have other virtual offerings.
RAINY DAY READ THROUGHS!
Thank you to everyone who's been instrumental in bringing back the tradition of "Rainy Day Read Throughs." So far we've done Romeo and Juliet and The Bacchae and they've been such fun! We're excited to continue to do these, we're hoping to do one every couple months or so, maybe occasionally more often depending on interest and bandwidth.
There's still time to sign up for our next Rainy Day Read Through, which will be Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull." The event will take place at whichever date and time has the most people signed up!
We'd also love to do a readthrough or two this summer! If you have suggestions for plays, there's a place on all of our sign up forms to suggest them, or you can email us with your suggestions. We're most likely to choose plays that are free to read somewhere online, as this makes scripts far more accessible.
SOCIAL EVENTS AND COMMUNITY BUILDING!
In addition to bringing back the Rainy Day Read-Through, Rainy Day has decided to recommit to engaging with our communities in (theater and arts-related) ways outside of performance.
At the moment, our only planned "non-performing" activities are the upcoming Rainy Day Read Through of "The Seagull." However, we'd like to continue to expand our community building opportunities more. So, we want to hear from you about what you might want to do with us in the future! This could be either virtually or in-person - we've had interest in a Virtual Social Hour and we're considering one soon.
Are you interested in virtual social hours? More trivia nights? Workshops or writing groups? Partnerships with other cool organizations? Are you interested in volunteering to help host any of these things? Let us know - we'd love to expand our offerings, but we can't do it without your support!
