PROJECT DETAILS: Type: SAG Short Film Title: Truths From a Corporate Sellout Producer: Peter Chung, Henry Hwang Director: Arabella Sharkey Casting Director: Violette Trotter Rate: $125 a day Usage: Film festival circuit, TBD future distribution Shoot Dates: March 1,2,3,4, & 6 Shoot Location: New York, New York CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:
[JANICE] 40-60, White, female. Ophelia’s oppressive boss and the head of the Disastrous Dates column for a magazine. She assigns Ophelia all the difficult and unpleasant tasks—from enduring a series of bad dates for funny column material to working overtime proofing articles and typing up work. Bitter from a past divorce, Janice’s worldview is cynical and jaded. She resents Ophelia’s potential as a writer, a dream Janice never achieved herself, and feels compelled to keep Ophelia trapped beneath her so as not to be reminded of her own unfulfilled aspirations. With her powerful position at the magazine, Janice is bold, controlling, and exudes a quiet, self-assured authority. SUPPORTING
[LEWIS] 21-35, White, male. A charismatic and mysterious man who becomes intrigued by Ophelia, the Disastrous Dates columnist. Confident, rebellious, and refreshingly honest, Lewis boldly challenges societal expectations and urges Ophelia to pursue her own dreams, break free from her oppressive job at the magazine, and confront her emotional repression. His presence pushes her toward a transformative journey after their date. However, there’s something oddly unsettling about Lewis—his true nature is unclear, and it’s as if he might not be entirely real, but rather part of Ophelia’s imagination. SUPPORTING
[GREG] 21-35, any Ethnicity, male. One of the dates featured in Ophelia’s Disastrous Dates magazine column. A former actor turned modern artist, he’s pretentious and self-indulgent, constantly championing his own “genius” and uniqueness. He takes Ophelia to a fancy restaurant to impress her. Greg is confident, opinionated, and convinced that his taste is superior to everyone else’s. While he tends to expect things to go his way, he ultimately plays a key role in Ophelia’s journey, reappearing at the end to help her pull off a devious prank to scare her boss Janice by staging his own realistic murder purely through an audio recording and his voice acting skills. SUPPORTING
[MATT] 21-35, any Ethnicity, male. One of the dates featured in Ophelia’s Disastrous Dates magazine column. Insecure and desperately trying to impress her, he lies, claiming to be the CEO of a laundromat chain and very wealthy, hoping she’ll be gullible enough to believe it and charmed into sleeping with him. In reality, he’s just the maintenance guy. Ophelia sees right through his facade with ease. Matt ditches Ophelia in the middle of their date, leaving her with the bill after she reads him an excerpt from her book, realizing she has a strangely dark and eerie side hidden behind her pretty face.
