MAY UNION EFFORTS
Outreach/Collaboration - Officially launched the Coalition for Professional Integrity on May 6th with an op-ed in Federal News Network and a press release. We also created a publicity folder for coalition members. Partnership for Public Service and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association signed on as members.
Research - Updated the Case for Reform of the H-1B and L-1 Visa Programs and the Use and Abuse of the J-1 Exchange Visitor Teacher Program fact sheets
Policy - Participated in an AFL-CIO Immigration Task Force meeting with Senator Gallego’s staff to discuss the Senator’s recently released immigration policy framework.
- Participated in a joint labor meeting with USTR staff to discuss trade-related priorities.
AEMI - Activities of the arts, entertainment, and media unions this month included:
- Convening the AEMI for its semi-annual meeting on May 8th at AGMA’s office in New York.
- Wrapping up the Action Network campaign to recruit signers for the FY 26 House appropriations request letters in support of funding the NEA and NEH, which resulted in 8,647 actions. The petition reached 424 House offices from every state and DC, meaning 97.5% of House members were contacted at least once about signing the NEA and NEH funding request letters.
- Facilitating Kennedy Center collaboration, including hosting a call with affiliates, updating the website, and creating and disseminating a survey to folks who signed up for updates through the website.
- Releasing a statement in response to the Trump Administration’s proposed elimination of the NEA, NEH, and CPB.
- Convening the broadcast unions (AFM, DGA, IATSE, IBEW, SAG-AFTRA, and WGAE) on May 9th to discuss ongoing initiatives and collaboration.
Communications - Released a statement applauding USTR’s 2025 Special 301 Report that details the findings of USTR’s review of intellectual property protection and enforcement in countries around the world.
