"Awe/Struck"
Synopsis: To save his daughter from the violence of their home country, Julio convinces her to leave everything behind and move to an unfamiliar world. Monique has never left Chicago but is feeling increasingly alienated by the world around her. Navigating a new country is exhausting and lonely, but when an altercation with a troubled teen leads to the unthinkable, people who were once strangers find a way to become family.

Denia - Latin American girl in her early twenties. Strong willed.

Julio - Denia’s father. A man with secrets. Broken.

Drew - All American perfect white guy, but gay. Never been hurt. Early twenties.

Monique - Crazy hood rat, white, but maybe forgets? Ticking time bomb.

"Reggie Hoops"
Synopsis: Reggie is one of the most promising executives in the NBA. But as a Black woman working in a male-dominated field, she’s had to work twice as hard to get half as far. Now abruptly unemployed, she’s adjusting to home life with a wife and kids she rarely saw while on the job. Between a mother with a secret past, an unemployed brother, and an audacious wife, Reggie is on edge. When an acquaintance from the past appears with an unbelievable job offer, Reggie finds her family has their own agendas in regards to her career.

Synopsis: With a successful career, an adoring boyfriend, and money to burn Orlando seems to have achieved what others only dream of. And yet he feels more empty than ever. So he makes a lifechanging decision and returns to his childhood home. When he arrives with a big announcement to share, he finds he’s not the only one with shocking news.

Research & Training - 

• Presented findings from the 2022 Survey of Nonunion Professionals to a group of OPEIU local officers and staff. The July 11 program included a discussion about approaches to organizing conversations using data from national survey.
• Shared results from a recently fielded nonscientific survey about the working conditions of insurance professionals in a July 27 meeting with OPEIU Local 9 members employed by Northwestern Mutual, an insurance company in Wisconsin.
• Released organizing resources from 2022 survey on nonunion professionals covering White and American Indian or Alaska Native professionals.

Strike Support - Supported SAG-AFTRA’s three Washington, DC leaflets at Warner Bros. and Netflix screenings. 

AEMI - Activities of the arts, entertainment, and media unions this month:

• Met on July 13 with NEA Chair Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson to discuss AEMI priorities related to the NEA’s funding of productions and performances that employ union creative professionals. Unions participating in the meeting were: AEA, AFM, AGMA, DGA, IATSE, IBEW, SAG-AFTRA, SDC, and WGAE.
• Participated in meetings with the Office of the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator, Department of Commerce, United States Trade Representative, and the U.S. IP attaches to WIPO/WTO regarding international AI issues. 
• Convened the broadcast unions (IBEW, IATSE, DGA, SAG-AFTRA, and WGAE) on July 14 to discuss ongoing initiatives and collaboration. 
• Convened the AEMI unions’ organizing directors on July 19 to discuss digital tools for organizing. 
• Updated and distributed the employment and unemployment data for the arts, entertainment, and media industry. The update is here.

Legislative/Policy - 

• Sent a July 18 letter to House offices urging co-sponsorship of H.R. 2871, the Performing Artist Tax Parity Act.
• Participated in a July 10 meeting, via the AFL-CIO Technology Institute’s CHIPS roundtable, with Department of Commerce staff regarding CHIPS implementation and workforce development.
• Participated in a July 17 meeting, alongside IFPTE, the AFL-CIO, and the AFL-CIO Technology Institute, with the Department of Commerce regarding work visa programs and CHIPS implementation.
• Participated in the July 19 Labor Advisory Committee liaison meeting with USTR.
• Participated in a July 28 meeting convened by the AFL-CIO with Senator Schumer’s staff to discuss labor’s priorities regarding AI.
